Android L Update: Will Motorola Support the Upcoming Android Version?
Motorola has been silent about the Moto X and Moto G Android L update. In the past, Motorola has been known for the rapid manner in which it rolled out the Android 4.4 KitKat update to the Moto X and the Moto G. In fact, the update was second to Google’s own Nexus devices. As such, Moto X and Moto G are hoping that Motorola will do the same when the Android L rolls out this fall.
Chances are good that the Moto X and Moto G will receive the Android L update, even for the Moto E. Back when the Moto E was released, it was updated to the Android 4.4.3 and Motorola said it would give another huge Android update before support ceases. So, if Moto E gets Android L, then the Moto x and Moto G will definitely get it.
U.S. Moto E users who bought the handset online will receive the update first as Motorola noted that the Moto E will receive the next major Android update and added, “consider this the cherry on top.”
Thus far, Motorola has no official comment on the Moto X and Moto G Android L update just yet. Meanwhile, the latest flagship smartphone from Motorola, the Moto X+1 release date is expected this summer, probably alongside the Moto 360 smartwatch.
There were rumours from the so-called Motorola Germany Facebook saying that the Android L update roll out to the Moto X and Moto G, but it appears that the rumour is a fake.
Motorola clarified the status from the Facebook page saying, “Unfortunately, we have found that a Facebook profile under the name “Motorola Germany” with the following URL facebook.com/MotoDACH/ was created. We would like to point out that this is not an official Motorola site and expressly distance ourselves from said content. All relevant information about Motorola can be found only here on this page.”
However, Motorola did not provide any further comment about the Android L update for the Moto X or Moto G.
Meanwhile, HTC confirmed that the Android L update will arrive to its flagship smartphones within 90 days of receiving the final software from Google.
“HTC is excited about the new features in the Android L release and we can’t wait to share them with our customers. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible as part of our HTC Advantage program. We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices.
Apart Android L is expected to be named as LimePie
