OnePlus X Review :

The OnePlus X is with a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB RAM and most attractive look which makes u fall in love with it, hence it is aptly marketed as “a beauty with brains”.

Flattering look and Eye catching build:

The look obviously most astonishing one ever produced by OnePlus. The 2.5 D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 at the front and extremely smooth and glossy mirror finish one at the back is complemented by an elegant metal frame. A 6.99 mm thick and 138 g weighing body design is just like a slim bar. Every edge is cut to precesion which has exactly 17 micro cut grooves running along the edges. There is a provision for switching navigation buttons on and off screen. Major push down is that the off screen buttons are not illuminated for one who choose to use off screen buttons. Moreover as safety is a major concern for our beauty OnePlus X, this requires additional attention towards its extremely slippery finish and slips from any texture which offer minimum angle.

Dashing Display:

The budget OnePlus X has Full HD 5 inch AMOLED display with 441ppi pixel density. AMOLED panels have a reputation for bright and well-saturated colors with deep blacks, and the OnePlus X gives you all that. Notable niggle is the small gap between the display and the cover glass.  Who doesn’t want to own a mobile with crisp display?

Software and UI:

This is an Android 5.1.1 Lollipop-based carefully sculpted machine with Oxygen OS. OxygenOS attracts the market with stock android approach and frequent updates .Oxygen OS adds spice and flavor to the taste of android. Customizations do a sublime job of complementing the stunning design. Added features are convenient.  There are two theme options: System-Wide dark mode (with user defined accent color) and a Stock Android — white – mode as similar to its Cyanogen versions. You can also change the color of your LED Notifications. It also supports a number of quick gestures like double tap to wake, circle to open camera and a “V” to on an off torch. OnePlus claims to give an update to Android MarshMallow to OnePlus X.

Killer Performance:

The OnePlus X is powered by a 2.3GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB RAM. The Snapdragon 801 was Qualcomm’s last year’s flagship chip. Issues like lack of support for 64-bit Architecture and OpenGL ES 3.1 make it less future-proof. However we can’t expect more SoC at this price tag .

The OnePlus X has a great sense and capacity of multitasking. There was some occasional lag or stutter from time to time, but all in all, we were pretty satisfied with the OnePlus X’s performance. If you are monster gamer this might disappoint you. Gets a bit warm with heavy graphic games and applications though it doesn’t possess an Octacore processor. As its a Snapdragon make , it breaths heat 😛

The phone comes with 16GB of inbuilt storage where 11.54 is accessible to the user. More (up to 128GB) can be added using a microSD card. The phones gives us a choice that is not appreciable that is either to have a 2nd SIM card or microSD card. You cannot have a microSD if you want use a second SIM and vice versa.

Camera a Stepdown:

OnePlus X has to stepdown in a way dealing with camera.  The OnePlus X comes with a 13-megapixel ,ISOCELL F/2.2 camera on the rear with face detect autofocus and a single LED flash. There’s also an 8-megapixel camera up-front.

Brightly lit areas are over exposed .lower is the light , diminished the picture quality. It is acceptable for one who cares photos as evidence of memories but not for one who want to take a bit of pride in his smart phone photography. Good enough for selfies lover as it gives plenty of light with a skin smoothing beauty mode

Unlike OnePlus One , OnePlus X cannot record 4K videos and limited to Full HD 1080p videos and there’s an option to shoot Slow-Motion videos at 720p however they are a bit dull compared to iPhone 6 Slo-Mo videos. Fairly it cannot compete with the picture quality of  its Android phones that fall in this price range like Xiaomi Mi4/Mi4i, Moto G(3rd Gen) and Moto X Play.

Battery:

The OnePlus X has a non-removable 2,525mAh battery. It is enough to charge once in a day for a normal user but shuts down at dusk for one who starts his early. When price is an aspect, it is pretty good for this phone. Making and receiving calls, listening to Music, Web browsing and managing Social Media Accounts. Activities like Graphics intensive gaming and streaming media over Wi-Fi does drains the battery at faster rate, but quite acceptable .It lacks quick charge.

Network and other issues:

The Oneplus X show a bit of inconsistency in using 4G data after using for a while. It has a lack of LTE 12 and 17 bands makes phone incapable of using 700 MHZ spectrum which is not an issue for subcontinent users but it is for users in US.It could probably turn to be a great machine if the company could fix these issues with a software update.

On the flipside ,  it does not have NFC and Quick charging ability which has now become the aspects to be concerned for an Android based mobile.Even few phones like YU Yuphoria which stand under 10 K INR price tag has Quick Charging feature and almost all Sony phones in this category have it.

Verdict:

Not good for one who prefers performance over physical attire, but a perfect match for one who would take pride in possessing a beauty in their palms like OnePlus X.
